STEVEN EASTON: CAST GLASS PORTRAITURE
I see faces everywhere, floating as clouds above and in phosphenes when I close my eyes. The Gnarled anthropomorphic trunks of trees smile in greeting. I have learned to call visages of lichen-covered rocks," the stone people". In the faces of both family and strangers, I find connection to humanity and history. This compels me to keep sculpting, freezing moments by finding form. Anchored in a present where I am seeing the mystery of faces as a kind of happiness, my portraits have become increasingly upbeat, showing faith in best possible outcomes. This is what excites and inspires me.
